Anna Kost

Hailing from Ekaterinburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast - 1800km east of Moscow and well over 3,500km from her current home of Berlin - Anna Kost is forging a luminescent path for herself in the sometimes shadowy world of techno. Alienated by the political regime of her native country like so many Russians of her generation, the 23 year-old producer and DJ spent the pandemic quietly developing a distinctive sound.

After surfacing on Soma Records and Warok Music in 2021, her twin EPs ‘The Very End Of You’ and ‘Waste Of Skin’ on Scuba’s enigmatic techno offshoot of Hotflush Recordings, Who Whom, sets out an overview of her approach to the form.

Rooted in European techno but with heavy influences from the broken-beat sounds of the UK underground, the EP combines technical dexterity with a stylistic literacy that belies her experience.

As a DJ, she exhibits a similar precocity. Her mixes for Slam Radio and Cosmonauts Athens feature an expert feel for shifting moods, with a rare ability to blend contrasting styles to create something entirely new.

Her appearance on HÖR Berlin consisted entirely of original productions, reflecting the prolific studio output of this exciting talent which led to two features in the Bandcamp Best Electronic Music newsletter in 2022.

A move to the Hotflush main label with the 'See Life Better' EP is slated for early 2023, with more releases to follow.
